Coastal Favourites – Europe
Covering 185,000 kilometers, Europe’s phenomenal collection of coastal holiday destinations never ceases to impress. Offering all manner of shoreline landscapes, activities, flora and fauna, we at Nomadic Thoughts, continue to enjoy discovering new locations and accommodation.
Deciding on the best time to visit will always be paramount, especially when considering the diversity of options from the Baltic Sea, Mediterranean (including Turkey), and Atlantic coasts (including Iceland and Norway).
We believe that the ever-unfolding variety of coastal options continues to offer everything: summer sunshine relaxation, beaches, coastal paths, under-visited islands, dramatic cliff scenery, isolated wildlife spots, and crashing surf. Throw in countless wildlife and wilderness areas, every kind of sea sport has an insatiable supply of local cuisines and you need to go no further.
For example, exploring Iceland’s coast by car in the winter is as exciting and different as the Greek island by boat in the summer. Equally, the coastal cities of Biarritz, Barcelona, and Bergan are as enthralling as Monaco, Marmaris, and Sainte-Maxime.
Whilst we cannot begin to mention them all, some of our favourite locations include:
- Spain (Galicia, Coast Brava, Gulf of Cadiz)
- Portugal (Azores, Algarve, Sagres south)
- France (Brittany, Biarritz surf, Cote D’Azur)
- Italy (Amalfi, Sardina, Sicily)
- Croatia (Dalmatia Coast, Pulka Peninsular, Dubrovnik)
- Greece (Aegean, Ionian and Peloponnese)
- Malta (Valetta, Gozo, Popeye)
- Baltic Sea (Jutland, Gulf of Bothnia and Baltics States)
- Iceland (glacial south coast; northern Peninsular, Arctic Sea)
- Norwegian Sea (Fjordland, Lofoten Islands, Svalbard)
- Atlantic archipelagos (Channel Islands, Canaries, Maderia)
- United Kingdom (Cornwall, Pembrokeshire, West Coast Scotland)
- Ireland (Strangford Lough, Kinsale Coast, Southwest Peninsula)
