Glasgow Declaration – COP26

As Chair of ACT, the climate crisis think tank for the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO), I am delighted to announce that we have become a Signatory and Launch Partner of the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism.

From AITO’s perspective, I believe this is a proud moment, in that it confirms that we are squarely behind action, not just talk. Equally, with sustainability core to Nomadic Thoughts’ DNA, we endeavour to balance our own climate crisis responsibilities with our clients’ travel aspirations.

In representing AITO – with circa 200 independent specialist tour operator and travel agent members – ACT continues to endorse our commitment to addressing the climate crisis.

Along with over 300-plus travel organisations, we aim to make this a lasting and deliverable climate action plan. It will be developed through a partnership of groups including UNTWO, the Travel Foundation, One Planet Network and Visit Scotland.

We will embrace five key pathways – Measure, Decarbonise, Regenerate, Collaborate and Finance – and continue to build on our long-term work in engaging not only the broader AITO membership and affiliate business partners, but also the wider travel industry in terms of accelerating climate action. We have committed to work towards a goal of cutting emissions by 50% by 2030 and ultimately Net Zero by 2050 at the very latest.

While this is currently an AITO’s HQ and office team commitment, we hope that ACT will further be able to help and encourage many of our members in the process of cutting emissions accordingly.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you require further information.
