Activity Holidays – Olympics Inspired (15.08.12)
Whether feeling inspired or exhausted by the Olympic Games the rise in activity holidays looks on course to grow and grow.
Over the past ten years we have noticed a huge growth in interest for activity and adventure holidays. Whilst a holiday can have a 100% activity focus, people are just as happy to travel somewhere offering a bolt-on activity or adventure. For example twenty years ago the diving market was dominated by ‘full on diving holidays’, today a high percentage of our clients travelling to a beach location are just as happy to know they can decide locally on which diving & snorkelling options to choose from.
Similarly coastal based activities play an important part in deciding which beach destination to choose. Sailing, kite-surfing, fishing, windsurfing, water-skiing, kayaking, coastal trekking and even cliff climbing can all be incorporated into a holiday – without necessarily being the all encompassing ‘main theme’ of the trip.
I am consistently impressed at the energy and entrepreneurial spirit shown across the globe for all things ‘active’. One-man surf schools, middle-of-nowhere scuba diving businesses and until recently inaccessible hiking trails appear to be opening everywhere.
Today, with everyone’s love for activities and adventure, Nomadic Thoughts have enjoyed combining specific activities, adventures and the simple pleasures of a holiday break for years. Our holidays can combine ‘Rocky Mountain skiing with Caribbean reef diving’ as well as ‘hiking the Himalayas & Indian Ocean sailing’.
In addition the new fad of ‘thrillax holidays’ goes hand in hand with people valuing the overall experience of their holiday as much as the quality of hotel they are staying in.
So if you are looking for fresh air and open spaces – from hang-gliding to zip-wiring – we know the best locations. Alternatively with Rio 2016 in mind – for those aiming to emulate our Olympians we have many a favourite location to practise your equestrian, open-water swimming, cycling, beach-volleyball, kayaking, sailing and speed walking skills.
