Middlesex Over 60s 2XI Cricket Team – National Champions 2026
Thank you to all for inviting us, Middlesex Seniors Cricket, to celebrate our season at Lords Cricket Ground.
Along with my teammates, I am very proud to have represented Middlesex Seniors Cricket again this season, with special celebrations having won The Over 60s 2nds Senior County Cricket Championship Cup.
In addition to playing for the love of the game, the enduring sense of competitiveness, comradery and friendship, are further enhanced by the benefits of staying fit, strong and frankly ‘long-term mobile’.
To that end my appreciation goes to the organisers, fellow senior participants across all counties, Middlesex cricket and my own team members. Lucky us, and long may it continue.
Albeit, don’t be lulled into thinking this is gentle, sedentary picture-postcard version of the game. The Over‑60s Seniors County Cricket Championship, which runs from April to September, showcases one of the UK’s largest and most inspiring later‑life sporting communities, promoting fitness, friendship, purpose, and the enduring joy of competitive cricket.
In our league alone more than 30 county teams play 45 overs games, that last six to seven hours.
I am particularly appreciative of this year, as in the past five seasons of Over 60s cricket, I have had to recover from cricketing action injuries, including a broken hand requiring surgery to implant metal pins into my thumb, a broken foot and surgery with 11½ months rehab, after the tearing my three proximal hamstring tendons off the hip bone.
As ever, those that are not familiar with cricket ask, “are you crazy, why do you carry on after sustaining such injuries, especially at your age?”.
Those that continue to play into their senior years say, “great to see you, it must be great to be back in action”.
And for these that have played the game to a much higher level, the ethos remains the same:
